USA Computing Olympiad (USACO)
USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) is the premier competitive programming competition for high school students in the United States. It serves as the primary pathway for selecting the U.S. team for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
History and Significance
USACO was established in 1992 and is organized by the USACO organization with support from the competitive programming community. It features a tiered system of divisions—Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—through which students advance based on performance. Top performers in the Platinum division are invited to the USA Computing Olympiad training camp, where the final IOI team is selected.
