International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)
International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is one of the most prestigious international physics competitions for high school students. Established in 1967, it is held annually and brings together top young physics talents from around the world. Each participating country or region selects a team—typically five students—through rigorous national competitions. The contest consists of both theoretical and experimental exams, each highly challenging and designed to test deep understanding of physics, strong analytical reasoning, and advanced laboratory skills. Based on performance, participants are awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as honorable mentions, representing one of the highest levels of pre-university achievement in physics worldwide.
History and Significance The IPhO is widely regarded as one of the highest honors in high school physics competitions. Participation reflects exceptional academic ability, dedication, and intensive training. Many former participants and medalists have gone on to make significant contributions in physics, engineering, and other scientific fields.
